aPerinatoloji Kliniği, Zeynep Kamil Kadın ve Çocuk Hastalıkları Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, İSTANBUL We reviewed the etiological factors of spontan abortions that are actual problems. We evaluated the studies and results of maternal factors such as infections, chronical diseases, endocrin diseases, immunological and enviromental factors. Presence of bacterial vaginosis in the first trimester is a risk factor of late abortus and preterm delivery. Severe cardiac disease, pulmoner and renal disaeses are also associated with recurrent abortions. Type 1 diabetic patients who are under control have similar abortus rates as non diabetic patients. Several studies stated that diabetic patients with high blood glucose and HbA1c in the first trimester had higher rate of spontaneous abortion. The effects of immune sistem on recurrent pregnancy losses are alloimmune and otoimmune factors.Smoking, caffein and alcohol intake are enviromental factors that effect spontaneous abortuion. Keywords: Chronic disease; endocrine system diseases; immune system diseases; infectionTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(5):17-24
